Who doesn’t love free music? I mean, most of us seem to find whatever we want to listen to and download it regardless. But there’s something special, warm and fuzzy when a reputable artist or DJ releases a mixtape or an EP for a free download. Thanks Sabzi.
People ask me why I care about making a mix of Hawaiian tunes. I tell them that it’s because Iʼm from Seattle.
I donʼt think I can apply the word ‘foreign’ to any cultural elements that have influenced me in becoming the person I am today.
Through years of, um, ‘nourishment’ from grinds, to listening to Jawaiian tunes as a teenager, to starting a group with a military kid from Honolulu, to learning the meaning of ‘false crack’ the hard way (ha!)… the spirit of Hawaii has long maintained a notable presence in my life.
And while Iʼm not Hawaiian, nor do I claim to be a local boy, I acknowledge and am thankful for the role that the Islands have played in the development of my cultural identity.
For me, a big part of the OOF! EP project was to experiment with a new way of identifying who we are and where we come from. It was an exercise in global cultural expression. Perhaps this is the age we can start believing that ‘where we are from’ is anywhere that has influenced us in becoming who we are. And perhaps our brothers and sisters are simply those who want to share this belief with us.
Watch out tho. When you embrace this idea, you start to think that home can be everywhere and your people could be everyone.
New People comin thru, son!
Respect to In4mation for the nifty ‘OOF!’ logo they designed and lent us, respect to Ohana for engineering the delicious shrimp tempura + diced spicy scallop + krab + masago sushi that they’ve dubbed the ‘69 Roll,’ and respect to you for reading this and listening to these tunes.
Here’s a new video from Jake One – ‘Home’ feat. Vitamin D, Note, Maneak B and Ish. Directed by Zia Mohajerjasbi, ‘Home’ is a track paying homage to the land of the 206. Props to Sir Mix-a-Lot and the Seahawks’ Nate Burleson for making cameo appearances.

We’d like to give TAPE a shout out for consistently following our guidelines. Gold star guys.

We all know what day it is today. We know you’ve probably read a ton of blogs and watched newscasts of this present-day election. I’m pretty sure you all know where LeftRight stands on the next president of the United States of America.
Please don’t forget that there are also a plethora of local issues and electoral decisions that we as American’s not only have a right, but a privilege to be a part of. Don’t vote because a candidate is black, white, old, soccer-mom, has a nice smile, etc. Don’t jump on bandwagons. Make an educated decision. Make an educated choice. Do research.
It looks like things just keep getting better for LeftRight clients, Kore Ionz. A few weeks ago, they opened up for reggae veteran Eek-a-Mouse, and now they get to share the same stage with the legendary Wailers. What an honor.

For the past 7 years, Super Genius Tattoo has brought the Northwest’s greatest artists and tattoo talent together to showcase some of the area’s biggest and best ink. The three-day convention will be held within the Fisher Pavilion at the Seattle Center on August 8, 9, and 10th.
The event will feature more than 200 artists, a kids play area with art and games and some great bands like Tiger Army, Nashville Pussy, Nevermore and Vince Mira to name a few.
Check the flyer. Go to the convention. Get some ink. Send us some photos. We plan on writing a follow-up to the convention, and any photos we get will be published on our blog for all the interwebs to see.
