The 11th Annual Seattle Show turned out to be quite the event. This small, design awards show was first organized in 1997 with the mission to highlight a lot of local talent and client work towards national recognition. Every year, more than 750 entries are judged and given awards based on design medium, individual skills, community involvement and the infamous ‘best of show’. While we at LeftRight can’t say we’ve received any of these awards (busy, busy), we are proud to say we’re part of a talented pool of designers, agencies and students all crossing paths in a collaborative manner to help combat the perils of ugliness.
Our friends at Creature have created ‘Reverse Memorials’ celebrating local youths’ achievement for local non-profit, The Service Board (sound familiar?). Instead of these memorials mourning a death, these reverse memorials celebrated the new and better lives these kids now have. Great job on getting a Gold, Creature.
University of Washington senior Francis Luu was tasked to rebrand the Port of Seattle, and was given a silver award for student work. A long time friend and colleague of LeftRight, we want to say we’re proud of you, Franko. You’ll always have a spot waiting for you at LR.
Election day is right around the corner. Get out there are vote people. Surely you have all been watching the debates and hearing all the shenanigans that seem to always go on during elections. By now you probably have your mind made up and are ready to go and cast your ballot. Let’s make the right choice here folks. We won’t force any of our views on you here but I did want to share the video below I saw today on one of my daily reads Quality Peoples.
It’s rad to see so many people getting engaged with the elections this time around. You could attribute it to a lot of different things but either way it’s insiprational and it’s nice to see the country starting to seem like it may actually get its head back on straight. After all it is time for some CHANGE.

We haven’t hit the ole’ blogisphere up in a minute and I thought I’d pop in and say hello.
Summer has been crazy busy for LR. Lots and lots of new projects coming down the pipe. We like new projects, means new friends and new opportunities to stretch those brain muscles. Keep an eye out for some new additions to the folio.
You gonna be at Bumbershoot? We’ll be there for sure, look for us, we are the guys with the hair and the hats. Got it? Sweet, see ya there!
For the past 7 years, Super Genius Tattoo has brought the Northwest’s greatest artists and tattoo talent together to showcase some of the area’s biggest and best ink. The three-day convention will be held within the Fisher Pavilion at the Seattle Center on August 8, 9, and 10th.
The event will feature more than 200 artists, a kids play area with art and games and some great bands like Tiger Army, Nashville Pussy, Nevermore and Vince Mira to name a few.
Check the flyer. Go to the convention. Get some ink. Send us some photos. We plan on writing a follow-up to the convention, and any photos we get will be published on our blog for all the interwebs to see.
I was going to write about the recent madness surrounding the iPhone release, but after thinking about it I decided against it. Unless you live under a rock you have already read plenty about the damn thing. Short story is it’s cool, not totally worth the upgrade if you have the original but still sweet none the less. I was one of the idiots who stood in line for hours on Friday, but only because I fell out of a kayak on the Fourth of July and lost my iPhone to the sea. One too many “beverages” I suppose led to my capsize but after some mourning I moved on. It’s good to have my little iBuddy back though I will say.
One thing I thought I would share with you though is a movie I just watched that was really crazy. It’s called The Bridge. Not for the kiddies. A film crew spent a year camped out by the Golden Gate bridge and filmed the large number of people that come there to end their life. The movie is super heavy and at times hard to watch but it’s not as gruesome as it would seem. They do a good job of making it tasteful and it dives more into the story of the jumpers and interviews their friends and families. Check it out.
Now put the iPhone down and go outside, it’s too nice to be on a computer. Cheers.
Now I don’t really consider myself a sports fan, but I do like to support my city and that support trickles down to the sports teams that play here. The current Sonics owner has been going through some legal troubles recently regarding his desire to break the lease at Key Arena and move the team. When he bought the team he signed a contract with previous owner Howard Schultzpromising to do everything within his power to keep the team here.
Well he didn’t try very hard.
The case was settled today to the tune of $75Million bucks. So the team will move to Oklahoma City and Seattle will be left teamless. There is of course some stipulations in the settlement and I won’t bore you with them, but it sounds like our Mayor actually did do his best to stick it to Clay Bennett (the owner). The good thing is we keep the name and the history the team has established here.
I honestly don’t know why this got to me so much, but I think it has to do with this dudes blatant disregard for the people of Seattle. He clearly has been motivated by money all along and would do anything to make that all mighty dollar. Well godspeed buddy, I hope Oklahoma is everything you hoped it would be…..jerk.
